Research, Inventory and Cataloguing Documents of the Criminal Court Registers Lamenta Criminalia post terraemotum, Diversi e possesso de Criminali and Criminalia in the State Archives of Dubrovnik, involving Jewish litigants (1667–1808)

The State Archives of Dubrovnik are a treasury not just for the history of the Jews of Dubrovnik, but for the entire Eastern Mediterranean, from Istanbul to Venice. In 2014 Center JAS initiated a project targeting Court Registers. The researchers Vesna Miović and Ivan Čerešnješ, have conducted systematic research focusing on the funds Lamenta Criminalia post terraemotum (charges after earthquake in 1667), Diversi e possesso de Criminale (charges to the Criminal Court), and Criminalia (sentences of the Criminal Court). A two years’ project of researching, inventory and cataloguing documents of 297 volumes and 180,000 pages of the Criminal Court Registers of the Dubrovnik Republic involving Jewish litigants from the period between 1667 until the collapse of the Republic in 1808 is resulting in e-book Research, Inventory and Cataloguing Documents of the Criminal Court Registers Lamenta Criminalia post terraemotum, Diversi e possesso de Criminali and Criminalia in the State Archives of Dubrovnik, involving Jewish litigants (1667–1808). Thought not all pages relate to the Jews, results of this research fulfilled our expectations, finding a significant number of cases involving Jewish litigants. They can provide abundant information on the everyday life of Jewish Community in Dubrovnik as well as its interactions with its gentile environment
